A room air purifier can do much to increase the over all comfort of your home, whether in a specific room or on one level. Many companies, including Prozone, Hunter and Honeywell make room air purifiers that complement an over all home air filter system. A silent air purifier can make for room air cleaners that do it all and do not disturb you, even while you sleep. While most purifiers do not come with reusable filters, there are a precious few that do. However, most types of room air purifier come with disposable filters or with specially charged collectors that can be cleaned with a damp sponge or a slightly wet wash cloth.
What are room air cleaners?
Air cleaners described as room air purifiers are usually quite small and compact. They are meant only to affect a 500 to 800 square foot space. They are not meant to purify the air of an entire home or even an entire apartment. However, they are usually quite effective in their sphere, and some people like to bring them to work to make their work space more breathable and vitalizing, as offices are known to be stuffy on occasion. The small size also quite often makes them ideal for travelling, and they can be moved from room to room in a home without too much trouble.
There are two main types of room air cleaners: those with filters and those with collection plates (or grids). The room purifiers with filters generally use HEPA filters, but if you are buying a very inexpensive one, it is likely that you are not getting a HEPA filter. These filters are sought after because they capture 99% of the particulates that float through the air of a room. These are often disposable, and should be changed every 1 to 3 months, depending upon the user’s manual. Cleaners with collectors usually have small metal plates that are charged to attract the air born particles from the air. They are trapped on the collectors.
